Sense Field Review

Concert Review: April 8, 2000

by Lexie Sprague

It had been thirteen months since I had seen Sense Field and rumors were flying (about their new CD, Warner Brothers, a possible break up, Scott), and I was beginning to have this strange feeling of doom. You know, like when you heard that Kathie Lee was leaving LIVE!

Then, out of the West they came! The show was in sight, and there was excitement and anticipation in the air. On Saturday, April 8, I traveled to Omaha's Sokol Underground and Sense Field was ON and they rocked! The band played some songs from Building and Killed For Less and it was like old home week for we die-hard Sense Field fans. They also played a few songs from their new CD, such as Open Heart Surgery and War of The Worlds, and the crowd loved them and I'm certain that Sense Field gained new fans from those who came only to hear Guided by Voices!

I'm neither a musician nor a music critic but, as with the visual arts, I know what I like. And, I LOVE Sense Field. The lyrics are incredible and with, perhaps, a different meaning to each listener; the heart and soul of our vocals man, Jonathan Bunch, come spilling out with each word. His voice is as beautiful as ever! The music itself is driving and gets the whole room jumping (literally). The new drummer, Rob, did a great job and seemed to really enjoy the whole experience, as did we all.

Even if you have to take a bus, make sure you catch Sense Field on their 2000 North American Tour this spring. The diesel fumes you endure will be worth it!
